PCHS Bear Facts

This week’s PCHS Bear Facts is a listing of hot topics for the week spanning February 1-8, 2023.

We start off with a shout out to Rosston Harris for his successful completion of the NOCTI Television Production test. Rosston is a senior who has successfully completed the pathway for Audio, Video, Technology and Film. We offer special thanks to Mrs. Melissa Thomas, CTAE supervisor.

We salute PCHS Beta Club members for their placement at the State Beta Convention. Winners included: Chloe Lynn, who won 1st place at state in ninth grade Science. Maya Cochran was the 1st place winner in ninth grade ELA. Hannah Bonvechio was named champion in Creative writing /Division I. The team of Chloe Lynn, Maya Cochran, Lilah Hall and Marlee Drury earned champion honors in the category of Freshman Problem Solving.

Other Beta winners included: Lilah Hall, 2nd place, (ninth grade/Social Studies), Cianna Kicklighter, 4th place (Twelfth grade/ELA); Bowen James, 4th place (Tenth grade/Social Studies); and Mattie Lee, who won 5th place in both Jewelry & Drawing in Division I).

The team of Chloe Lynn, Nevaeh Grant, Maya Cochran, Lilah Hall, and Marlee Drury won 5th place in Engineering.

Hats off to those PCHS students who competed in the Okefenokee Technology Competition, earning seven 1st place medals and four 2nd place medals.  1st place winners included:  Ryker Coomes (9-10 Video Production); Hayden Feagin & Corbin Hunzeker (11-12 Audio Production); Preston Lloyd & Cayden Lovell (11-12 Digital Photo Production); Clint Hendrix (11-12 Animation); Whitney King & Aryn Broadnax (11-12 Graphic Design); Nathan Rupright (11-12 Multimedia Applications); Cameron Jarrell & Jad Lynn (11-12 Video Production).  Our 2nd place winners included: Trey Spires (9-10 Video Production); Regan Boatright & Maddie White (11-12 Audio Production); Kayla Johnson (11-12 Digital Photo Production); and Alex Newman (11-12 Project Programming). The advisor is Mr. John DuPont

Congratulations to the following students for placing in the recent HOSA Region Testing: Maggie Thrift, Lily Hays, Sariah McMillian, Regan Clements, Esmeralda Santana, Lily Spivey, and Maggie Peacock. The instructor is Mrs. Ellen Knowlton.

More honors now for the PCHS Bears football team, which has been named the Deer Park Fueled by Nature Team of the Year for Class AA in Georgia. PCHS received a $500 cash prize and a trophy. Thanks to all who voted!

Attention PCHS artists! This spring there are multiple opportunities for you to show off your talent throughout our area. Various art shows will be kicking off within the next few weeks, and we are looking for artists to submit their best artwork. If you are interested, please bring your artwork, with your name and grade attached, to Mr. Jerry Murray in the art room by Friday, February 17th.

The annual PCHS Teacher Signing Day will be Monday, May 1. Participants must be seniors graduating in 2023 who want to pursue working with children in education as their career job”. Students come by Mrs Amy Day’s classroom 249 to sign up.

Congratulations to Liz Ann Hughes, who was recently accepted to Georgia Southern University, and to Addison Cantrell, who has been accepted to Oglethorpe University.

The Armed Forces Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) will be administered again at PCHS on February 3 to those juniors and seniors interested in joining the military who signed up by the deadline.

Any girl interested in participating in the Miss Pierce County High School pageant can pick up a registration form from Mrs. Beverly’s room (395) in the mornings before 8:15 or during 4th block. The pageant is March 25. The deadline to enter is Friday, March 10.

Juniors and seniors and their guests are invited to “Dance through the Decades” on Saturday, April 22. Your class dues must be paid before we leave for spring break on March 31 in order to attend prom. Dues are as follows: freshmen ($5), sophomores ($10), juniors ($25), and seniors ($20).

Prom guests must be at least in 9th grade and no older than 20. Any guest must be pre-approved by the PCHS administration. To get a guest pre-approved, you must fill out the blue guest registration form that is located outside of Mrs. Slusher’s classroom (399). The registration form, a copy of the guest’s picture ID, and a guest fee must be turned in to Mrs. Slusher before March 31.
