The Pierce County Court House will be closed for at least two weeks for mold removal beginning next Monday, Jan. 16.
Chief Superior Court Judge Dwayne Gillis declared a judicial emergency Monday to close the court house. The emergency will shield county employees and the public from potential danger due to the mold removal.
The county has contracted with Crawlspace Mold Solutions for the cleaning, removal, spraying and remediation of mold at the court house. The work began Monday and will continue through Friday, Jan. 27. The court house is scheduled to re-open Monday, Jan. 30.
All courthouse offices will be relocated to alternate locations until the repairs are completed. The physical offices of the Clerk of Superior Court, Probate Court, Magistrate Court and the Solicitor’s office will be relocated to the Pierce County Courthouse Annex III located at 312 Nichols Street, Blackshear.
During this closure period, the Clerk of Superior and State Court, the Probate Court Judge, and the Magistrate Court shall conduct all business and functions of their respective offices at the Courthouse Annex location.
Commissioners approved the work in November. The cost to remove the mold is $78,813 and will be covered by the American Rescue Plan Act (COVID Relief Funds).
