Cross Country teams compete in Raider Invitational in Garden City

It was an eventful week for the Pierce County High School Cross Country teams, with high placing runners and multiple team members absent due to sickness.

Girls Varsity completed first overall, at last Wednesday’s (Sept. 28) Raider Invitational in Garden City.

This week’s fastest runner, Natalie Daniels, finished in second place with a 24:50.60 run-time.

Following Daniels in the top five were Yuri Gaona (24:54.30), Neveah Grant (26:03.40), Ana Llamas-Diaz (27:11.40) and Maya Cochran (28:15.70).

One female runner was absent due to illness.

Spencer Hawkins finished first among the runners for  PC Boys Varsity and sixth overall, earning a time of 20:26.20.

Joe Drew (20:30.10), Corbin Hunzeker (21:20.10), Ashton Bowen (21:20.19) and Walker Sergent (21:42.10) rounded out the top five.

Overall, the boys varsity team finished second despite three runners being absent for health reasons.

Coach LeighAnne Hersey reported that this was the smallest event PC has run so far this season, but they are happy with the results nonetheless.

PC Cross Country’s next meet is set for October 13, when the team will travel to Brunswick for the sixth annual Run the Plank event at the College of Coastal Georgia.
