Welcome to spring semester, everyone! Faculty members report for pre-planning today (Wednesday). Classes will resume at PCHS on Monday, January 9, 2023.

Congratulations to PCHS alums Stetson Bennett IV and Luke Bennett, whose Georgia Bulldogs will play Monday, January 9 for college football’s national championship for the second year in a row! Stetson was the Bulldogs’ Offensive Player of the Game in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, which saw Georgia beat Ohio State, 42-41. Also returning to the championship for the second year in a row are fellow PCHS graduates C.J. Barrett and Ethan Lowman, who serve as members of the UGA football film crew. Monday’s championship game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. at Sofi Stadium in Los Angeles.

PCHS basketball returns home on Thursday, January 5 against Charlton County. The action includes JV girls (3 p.m.), JV boys (4:30 p.m.), varsity girls (6 p.m.) and varsity boys (7:30 p.m.).

The guidance department reminds you that the deadline to register for the February 11 ACT is this Friday, January 6. Register online at www.actstudent.org. Coming up this Saturday, January 7, don’t miss Bears Bingo, presented by PCHS Basketball, in the PCHS gym, starting at 6 p.m. Admission is $25 and includes 10 bingo cards plus three raffle tickets. There will be concessions, music, door prizes, and raffles.

Also this Saturday, the varsity wrestling team returns to the mats in the Team Area competition at Brantley County High School. Action there begins at 9 a.m.

Students who wish to participate in Driver Education need to sign up at the attendance office beginning January 9 until January 20 and pick up an information packet. Classes begin on January 21. If you want your license at age 16, you must have a driver education course.

Also Monday is the Pierce County Touchdown Club’s drawing for their $10,000 giveaway. This was re-scheduled from its originally-scheduled drawing date of January 1.

Girls and boys tennis tryouts will be Monday, January 9 and Tuesday, January 10 from 3:45 until 6 p.m. You must have a current physical on file to try out. See Coach Lori Marx if you have questions.

The PCHS Swim Bears return to competition on Wednesday, January 11. Competition begins at 4 p.m. at the Waycross YMCA. It’s the start of a four-meet homestand to end the regular season.

The Bears and Lady Bears host Windsor Forest Tuesday, January 10. That action slate includes JV boys (4:30 p.m.), varsity girls (6 p.m.) and varsity boys (7:30 p.m.). If you can’t make it out to PCHS on basketball game days, you can watch all the home hoops action this season on the NFHS Network.
