Clayton Carlton “Carl” Courson, 74, of Blackshear, passed away Tuesday evening, January 24, 2023, at the Hospice Satilla Hospice House in Waycross.
Born in Blackshear August 19, 1948, he had lived in Pierce County all his life. He was a graduate of Blackshear High School and went on to retire from CSX Transportation where he had been a supervisor. He enjoyed farming and working in his yard – especially mowing grass. He was a member of the Blackshear Masonic Lodge #270 and the Hasan Shriners -Albany. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was a son of the late Henry Clayton Courson and Dorothy Inez Altman Courson Cason. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Elaine Peacock Courson; a great-grandson, Mason Bagley; a sister, Faye Boker and both of his brothers, Billy Courson and Dan Cason.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Clayton Charles “Charley” and Teresa Courson and Tony and Sabrina Courson, all of Blackshear; a sister, Dorothy Brazel Brooks, Blackshear; five grandchildren, Cassie Howard, Taylor Bagley, Breanna Luke, Avery Courson and Travis Courson; six great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will take place from 3-4 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, from the Pearson-Dial Chapel.
The family kindly requests members of the Blackshear Masonic Lodge to serve as honorary pallbearers. Please meet at the funeral home by 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.
