Courthouse is to reopen Jan. 30

The Pierce County Court House is scheduled to re-open  Monday, Jan. 30.

The courthouse has been closed for the past two weeks for mold removal.

All courthouse offices relocated to the Nichols Street Annex will be moved back in to the courthouse next week. The physical offices of the Clerk of Superior Court, Probate Court, Magistrate Court and the Solicitor’s office will be reopened at their respective locations in the courthouse beginning Monday.

Chief Superior Court Judge Dwayne Gillis declared a judicial emergency January 9 closing the building. The emergency will shield county employees and the public from potential danger due to the mold removal.

The county contracted with Crawlspace Mold Solutions for the cleaning, removal, spraying and remediation of mold at the court house. The work began January 9 and is scheduled to wrap up this Friday, Jan. 27. The court house is scheduled to re-open Monday, Jan. 30.

Commissioners approved the work in November. The cost to remove the mold is $78,813 and will be covered by the American Rescue Plan Act (COVID Relief Funds).
