Charles Franklin Walker, 86, of Blackshear, passed away early Friday morning, December 15, 2023, at Satilla Bluffs Senior Care, following an extended illness.
Born September 16, 1937, in Blackshear, he was a son of the late Lewis Jackson “L.J.” Walker Jr. and Midred Davis Walker. He grew up in Jacksonville, Florida and was a 1956 graduate of Andrew Jackson High School. He lived in Liberty, North Carolina for many years before returning to Pierce County in 2019.
He was a veteran, having served in the United States Navy and was retired from AT&T. He worked many years in communications, traveling to many areas of the world including Saudia Arabia, Taiwan, Germany, England, and the Marshall Islands, installing security equipment.
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, and had enjoyed traveling to Africa on a big game hunting trip. He was a member of the National Rifle Association (NRA) and the Wild Turkey Federation, attending many banquets over the years.
He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James Stanley Walker and two infant sisters, Emma Agnes Walker and Betty Joyce Walker.
Survivors include his sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Penn Outlaw, Patterson; sister-in-law, Zolena Walker, Gainesville, FL; two nephews, Penn Outlaw Jr., West Palm Beach, FL and Stacy Outlaw, Orange Park, FL and many cousins and other relatives.
Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18, at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18, from the chapel of Hart Funeral Home.
Interment will follow in Waters Cemetery.
The family requests the members of the Briarwood Baptist Church Young at Heart Sunday School Class to serve as honorary pallbearers. They are asked to please be at the funeral home by 9:45 a.m. Monday.
