The Exchange Club of Blackshear honored Maddie White, Pierce County High School student of the month, at their weekly luncheon meeting last Thursday, April 20. Maddie was accompanied by her parents, David and Lori White and her teacher, John DuPont. Maddie addressed the group telling why she chose Mr. DuPont as her pick for teacher of the month. Maddie spoke highly of her teacher saying, “sometimes those who work the hardest never receive a thank you, so this is my thank you,” she said. “Mr. DuPont has been a phenomenal teacher but he goes beyond that. He’s my biggest supporter for everything I do.” Her admiration for her teacher was quite evident as she told the room full of Exchange Club members and guests, “He is just a friend to me and my peers and he goes out of his way to be there for every student no matter what.” Maddie is involved in BETA, FFA, FBLA, Math Team, she is also on the Superintendent’s Advisory Council and she plays the guitar in Jazz Band. At the end of her high school career, she will have 60 college credit hours along with her associate’s degree in general studies. After graduation, Maddie has committed to Georgia Tech as a computer engineering major.
After Maddie spoke, Mr. DuPont addressed the Club telling that Maddie was one of his “most accomplished students.” Mr. DuPont told the club that he himself is a University of Georgia Alumni, but if he doesn’t get some Georgia Tech merchandise he is going to be upset. He also stated, “if Maddie uses her talent, she will make the world laugh and forget our problems for a short amount of time.” He compared her to a legend saying, “she is the Walt Disney of her time.”
Matt Gardner, President of the Blackshear Exchange Club, reminded everyone that all of the Exchange Club Students of the Month will have a chance to win a scholarship at the end of the school year.
The Blackshear Exchange Club wishes Maddie and all of the outstanding students much success in their future.
